The foundation of what was to become tech-picks.com was formed more than 12 years ago, while in college, with core founders Dan O'Donnell (sport medicine major), Sean Morrissey (mathematics and physics major) and John Marino (mathematics major). All three of us were avid sports fans and were no stranger to placing wagers on all types of sport games to add a little excitement to things. So, what happens when you get math and physics majors sitting around talking sports?......like all other scenarios in college life, we naturally started to break down each aspect of the games we were following to find characteristics that we felt ultimately led to the final outcome. After doing this for over a year, we devised an algorithm that examines several values including win-loss streaks, player performance against individual opponent environments, pitching / hitting trends, line up sets (including injury subs) as well as many other values. By letting the algorithm examine all assigned values, what came out was a weighted score that theoretically determines the team with the greatest likelihood of producing a winning outcome for each game played. With the algorithm tuned, we went back and accumulated a 3 year database of past games played over several different sports to compare the predicted output from the algorithm using the pre-game values with the actual known outcome. This action allowed us to further tune our model for greater accuracy. What resulted from all of this work was an algorithm that today we call our Game Weighting algorithm (GWA) which yielded a greater than average success rate for game outcome prediction in our database test. This also became the topic for my senior programming project as it took up so much time that I didn't have the energy to start anything new. It turns out that my professor was not a huge sports enthusiast, however he did greatly appreciate the vast amount of work required to assemble the database to verify the accuracy of the model. Over the past several years since graduating from college, our Game Weighting Algorithm (GWA) was under exclusive contract with three of the larger sports handicapping services in the country. Unfortunately, the main exclusion of the contract was that we were not allowed to compete against them by providing our own handicapping analysis using the GWA. Ultimately, we chose to allow the agreements to expire in late fall of 2007 without renewing them, with the goal of eliminating the "middle man" and bringing our winning approach out into the light for everyone to use. We believe whole heartedly in the approach that we take toward sports analysis and handicapping since we have invested many hundreds of hours into creating our program and it is the rock that our entire company is built on. Additionally, we have the gift to work in a field that we are all passionately involved in both personally and professionally. Having the love for sports analysis allows us to apply a real world examination to our results before they are passed on to you. Let us prove to you why we believe we have the best sports analysis and handicapping service industry by simply giving you free picks to use to your advantage.
